Google Search Console
Google Search Console provides information directly from Google about how your website performs in its search results.
You will learn how to use Search Console to monitor impressions, clicks, click-through rates and average search positions.
We also look at how to analyse individual pages and search queries so you can identify which content is performing well and where opportunities for improvement may exist.
Google Analytics 4 (GA4)
Google Analytics 4 provides a much broader picture of what happens after somebody arrives on your website.
You will learn how to use GA4 to understand where visitors come from, which pages they visit and what they do while they are on your website.
Rather than trying to understand every feature within GA4, we concentrate on the information that is genuinely useful for evaluating SEO performance.
Measuring Organic Traffic
Increasing organic search traffic is one of the most obvious objectives of SEO, but headline visitor numbers rarely tell the whole story.
You will learn how to isolate and analyse organic traffic, compare performance over different periods and identify which landing pages are attracting visitors from search engines.
We also look at why the quality and relevance of traffic can be more important than simply increasing visitor numbers.
Measuring Leads and Sales
Traffic has little commercial value if it doesn't contribute towards your business objectives.
You will learn how to measure the actions that matter, such as enquiries, telephone calls, form submissions, bookings or online sales.
Connecting SEO activity to genuine business outcomes makes it possible to move beyond questions such as "Are our rankings improving?" and start asking the much more useful question: "Is our SEO generating business?"
Reporting SEO Performance
Good SEO reporting should make performance clearer, not bury people beneath spreadsheets and statistics.
You will learn how to select useful metrics, compare performance over meaningful periods and present the results in a way that clients, managers and other stakeholders can understand.
An effective report should explain what happened, why it matters and what should happen next.
Competitor Monitoring
Your website doesn't operate in isolation. Search visibility can change because your competitors improve as well as because something changes on your own website.
You will learn how to monitor competitors, compare search visibility and identify changes in their content, rankings and wider SEO activity.
Competitor monitoring can also reveal new opportunities and provide useful context when evaluating your own performance.
Why SEO Measurement Matters
SEO is an ongoing process.
Without measurement, it is difficult to know whether the changes you make are actually improving performance.
Rankings can be useful, but they are only one part of the picture. Increased visibility should ideally lead to more relevant visitors, and those visitors should ultimately contribute to enquiries, leads, sales or other meaningful business objectives.
Good analytics allows you to connect these stages.
Visibility → Traffic → Leads → Sales
This makes SEO less about assumptions and more about evidence.
It also helps you make better decisions. You can identify what's working, discover what needs improvement and concentrate your time and budget on the activities most likely to produce results.
What You Should Be Able to Do After This Module
By the end of the Analytics & Reporting module, you should be able to use Google Search Console and GA4 to evaluate organic search performance, monitor traffic and measure important conversions.
You should also be able to monitor competitors and produce clear SEO reports that communicate useful information rather than simply presenting statistics.
Most importantly, you should be able to answer the question that ultimately matters: is our SEO actually working?
