LWF SEO Web Spider: Upgrading

Use this guide when installing a newer release over an older copy of LWF SEO Web Spider.

Before Upgrading

  1. Finish or stop any active crawl.
  2. Export any crawl results you need to keep.
  3. Close the application.
  4. Download the new release from London Web Factory.

Starting a new crawl replaces the previous working crawl database, so CSV export is the safest way to keep a crawl report outside the application.

Upgrade on macOS

  1. Quit LWF SEO Web Spider.
  2. Download the new macOS release.
  3. Replace the existing app in Applications with the new copy.
  4. Open the app.
  5. Accept the licence agreement if the app asks you to review updated terms.

Upgrade on Windows

  1. Quit LWF SEO Web Spider.
  2. Download the new Windows release.
  3. Run the installer, or replace the old application folder with the new release if the app is supplied as an archive.
  4. Open the app.
  5. Accept the licence agreement if the app asks you to review updated terms.

What Is Preserved

The app stores user settings in the operating system's per-user application data area. These settings are designed to survive normal application upgrades.

The preserved settings include:

  • accepted licence agreement version;
  • crawler User Agent;
  • recent crawl history;
  • internal results table column widths;
  • hidden internal results columns;
  • URL details drawer width;
  • cached product messages;
  • confirmed registration details.

Crawl history is stored locally in SQLite. The current working crawl data is also local, but you should export important reports before upgrading.

Licence Agreement Updates

If the End User Licence Agreement changes materially, the app uses a new agreement version. On the next launch, you may be asked to accept the updated terms before using the app.

Registration After Upgrading

The app keeps the last confirmed registration locally. On startup it may validate the saved registration with the London Web Factory registration service. Temporary network failures should not remove a previously confirmed registration.

If Pro speed modes are missing after an upgrade:

  • check your internet connection;
  • open Help > Register... or Help > Registration Details...;
  • re-enter the registration key if required.

After Upgrading

Run a small crawl first if you are using a new major release. Confirm that:

  • the Browser tab opens pages normally;
  • Analyse page opens the sidebar;
  • Start begins a crawl;
  • Internal Links and External Links render correctly;
  • CSV export contains the data you expect.
